The Nagoya Protocol is implemented in the EU through Regulation (EU) No 511/2014, in force since October 12, 2014, to ensure fair and equitable benefit-sharing from the use of genetic resources. It requires users to exercise “due diligence” to ensure resources were accessed legally, requiring Prior Informed Consent (PIC) and Mutually Agreed Terms (MAT)
